I can only imagine what it must be like to go to a 'health farm'. The pain of being deprived of all those addictive foods and drugs that are so bad for you. The glow of feeling better as a result.
I can tell you that I felt something similar when I first read Kevin Moloney's Rethinking Public Relations: the spin and the substance. Here was an insider (a public relations lecturer no less) flagellating PR practitioners so they might have more virtuous thoughts and deeds. This was the most critical book about public relations I had then read (and I'm including Toxic Sludge is Good for You! in this). Note that, in academic circles, being critical is praiseworthy.
Moloney is a high priest of the mystery called public relations. He challenges, exhorts and illuminates our path. He offers us a choice.
This is a preamble to say that I now have a copy of his second edition: Rethinking Public Relations: PR Propaganda and Democracy (note the intentional lack of punctuation between PR and propaganda). I want to savour it, and will offer a bit-part review as I read it. Can he perhaps offer us the recipe for a more nourishing, fat-free version of public relations? (That's enough metaphors for one blog post).
